APEX Everywhere, data anywhere : New APEX 18c REST Enabled SQL Support

615, Level 6

Erik Espinoza, Solutions Architect

Moving from Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1 to 12.2 version can be tricky. We are now dealing with Weblogic, multiple Filesystems, Edition Based objects and so on. ADOP is the new tool for online patching in 12.2. Even though is a whole new concept, it shouldn’t be difficult to catch up and successfully patch EBS environments. This presentation provides information about the ADOP tool, best practices, issues faced and troubleshooting.

Vote Early, Vote Often: From Napkin to Canvassing Application in a Single Weekend

618, Level 6

Jim Czuprynski, Senior Enterprise Database Architect & Oracle ACE Director

The frenetic pace of application development in modern IT organizations means it’s not unusual to demand an application be built with minimal requirement gathering – literally, from a napkin-based sketch – to a working first draft of the app within extremely short time frames – even a weekend! – with production deployment to follow just a few days later.

This session demonstrates a real-life application development scenario – the creation of a mobile application that gives election canvassers a tool to identify, classify, and inform voters in a huge suburban Chicago voting district – using the latest Oracle application development UI, data modeling tools, and database technology. Along the way, we’ll show how Oracle APEX makes short work of building a working application while the Oracle DBA leverages her newest tools – SQL Developer and Data Modeler – to build a secure, reliable, scalable application for her development team.

Stay Out of APEX Debt!

612, Level 6

Session: 8790

Scott Spendolini, VP APEX+ Practice & Oracle ACE Director

Technical debt is a term often used to describe projects that continue to cost an organization money each year. Often poorly designed or build by novices, these applications are not only difficult to maintain, but also make an organization less efficient and even vulnerable to security flaws.

With APEX, there’s no excuse to wind up in this situation. Out of the box, APEX offers plenty of functionality to solve most business problems. This session will review the vast and rich set of APEX components as well as offer advice as to what not to do when building APEX applications to ensure that you stay debt free.

Jerry Ward, COO & Head of Applications

You have a database and you want to talk to it? In this session we’ll show you how to create a conversational chatbot on any data, database, or webservice. We explore the intents, utternces, and database access needed by the machine learning algorithms within chatbots. We will demonstrate the Oracle Digital Assistant chatbot implementation, comparing and contrasting it with Amazon Lex. We will also demonstrate the various channels that conversations can take place: from group chat like slack, to text messaging over SMS, and voice conversations like Alexa.

Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW): These Are the Droids You’re Looking For

617, Level 6

Jim Czuprynski, Senior Enterprise Database Architect & Oracle ACE Director

It’s sometimes difficult to quickly identify the root cause of a performance issue in the database. Automatic workload Repository (AWR) contains most of the information needed to identify these issues, but it could be overwhelming due the amount of data and statistics. Then, there’s a need of a method to quickly identify if the database system is CPU or I/O bound along with the top SQL statements in that period of time.

This quick tip session will explain how to identify the time consumed and the time waited by the database. It also drills down to particular SQL statements responsible of this time consumed.

APEX Security Checklist

6C, Level 6

Session: 8793

Scott Spendolini, VP APEX+ Practice, Oracle ACE Director

Security is more important than ever before—particularly for the application developer. APEX is no exception to this rule, as there are plenty of things that can be either misconfigured or set incorrectly, resulting in a less secure application.

This session will go through a checklist of what you, as an APEX developer, need to complete before promoting any APEX application to production.

Changing Landscapes: Staying Relevant in the Database – Relational, Big Data and Beyond! A Panel Discussion

6B, Level 6

Jim Czuprynski, Senior Enterprise Database Architect & Oracle ACE Director

Nothing is perhaps as exciting in the industry as the introduction of radically new technologies. For database professionals, this can be viewed as a risk, considering their responsibility to the company’s data and the database. With the introduction of the cloud, the data management & development arena is now in the midst of this change, and the industry feels its impact. For the last decade, we’ve been part of a radical new age in data generation and new data growth. With this addition of cloud computing, advanced storage technologies, big data, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, companies will have access by 2020 to upwards of 1.8mb of data per second, per every individual on the planet.

This panel will discuss the revolution going on in the database world today—relational, big data, and beyond, along with its effect on the role of the database administrator and developer of tomorrow.

The Doctor will See You Your Blockchain: A Prescription for a more Efficient and Secure Pharmacy

620, Level 6

Jerry Ward, COO & Head of Applications

In this session we discuss a use case for preventing fraud in healthcare. We demonstrate a mobile application using blockchain to securely deliver medical prescriptions from the health care provider to the pharmacy. Forever, doctors and healthcare professionals have been writing patient prescriptions for controlled medication on tiny sheets of paper in notoriously bad handwriting. The scripts are given to patients, faxed to pharmacies, and transmitted to insurance providers. In hospital environments, the scripts are transmitted between departments and third parties to in-house pharmacies.

The current system creates a lot of inefficiency; each health care entity needs to reconcile these scripts with one another. Audits are required. Prescription drug fraud in the form of forgery, computer manipulation, impersonation, and drug or quantity manipulation are a growing health problem. The stakes of prescribing the wrong prescription to a patient could be deadly.

There is another way to do this which could eliminate the need for constant reconciliation, where audit is built in, and controls are in place to detect and prevent fraud in real time.

We will demonstrate a mobile and web application front end with a blockchain back end. Doctors prescribe drugs to patients via the web application. Patients visit the pharmacy and present their mobile script. Pharmacists scan the script with their mobile application. We will show how scripts cannot be modified, synthesized, or duplicated. Both the doctor and the pharmacist have their own instance of the blockchain, and this reduces the need for reconciliation.

The following technologies are presented: Oracle JET, Oracle Blockchain Cloud Service, IAAS, PAAS, HTML, JavaScript, Apache Cordova, and APEX.
